Claudius what are your motives for killing the king, marrying his wifeand taking on the role of father to his juvenile son? Claudius is introduced in act I, ii. In this scene he has an importantspeech. In this speech he talks most the death of the king, his marriage to the pouf and the foreign problems of the state. He utilizes many transitions andtends to empiseze the foreign affairs of the state. I dont jockey what to make ofthis, it could mean various things. It could mean that Claudius is making a grabfor designer shown in his concentration on the foreign polices trying to distractfrom his lust for power, along with his marriage to the queen giving the changein leadership a smoother and more acceptable feel. In Yeats poem, Leda and the Swan and Sophocles Oedipus Rex, Divine punishment plays a crucial role, and is the basis for the action at laws of both Oedipus and Leda. Yeats and Sophocles explore the idea of Divine punishment in miscellaneous ways. Yeats shows Ledas attitude towards the experience of the appall, and the result of the rape leads to Ledas attitude towards the Gods, which then leads to many more travesties. In a similar way, Sophocles shows Oedipus reaction to Divine punishment when Oedipus realizes that he has killed his father and married his mother. The consequences of this rape includes twain children, Helen and Clytemnestra who later marry and experience the fall of the Trojan empire and the killing of Agamemnon, Clytemnestras husband. The story of Leda and the Swan creates a vivid portrait of a rape in the midst of an all-powerful swan and Leda, the Spartan Queen.
